Session Overview: "Emma will share 3 case studies looking at the ongoing Audiological management of hearing losses with a conductive component that have had surgical intervention (including tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy) but with a residual hearing loss. The importance of regular monitoring of hearing, consideration of a large range of device options (including CROS aids and Cochlear Implants) and how to optimise the devices and evaluate outcomes will be discussed. We will also look at how to manage these cases in the context of the Hearing Services Program.
Stuart's presentation will focus on the role of the audiologist in the diagnosis and management of adults with conductive / mixed hearing loss in an ENT setting. A case study approach will be used to illustrate the involvement of the audiologist in each stage of the diagnosis and rehabilitation of patients presenting with conductive / mixed hearing loss. Topics will include the importance of pre and post-operative assessments in guiding ENT decisions regarding surgical intervention. Rehabilitation options for patients who are not considered good candidates for surgery or who have significant residual hearing loss will be reviewed."
