Audiology Australia welcomed the opportunity to provide a response
to Consultation Paper 2, on the options for regulation of the audiology
profession.
We support the introduction of registration if it
effectively addresses critical gaps in the sector and strengthens professional
standards without imposing unnecessary barriers. However, we also recognise
significant flaws in the analysis that have driven the push for registration.
Risks that we’ve identified include a potential reduction in education, continuing professional development and policy reform advocacy with loss of PPB revenue, and potential workforce shortages in rural and remote areas as companies may seek to employ audiometrists over audiologists to avoid stricter compliance requirements.
