The National Health and Medical Research Council Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare 2019 (the Guidelines) provide a nationally accepted evidence-based approach to infection prevention and control focusing on core principles and priority areas for action.

The approach is underpinned by a risk-management framework to ensure the basic principles of infection prevention and control can be applied to a wide range of healthcare settings including those where audiologists provide services such as hospitals, office-based practice, residential aged care facilities, remote area health services, client homes and visiting sites.

This document summarises the guidelines for audiologists. Recommendations and practice statements that are outside the scope of practice for audiologists have not been included in this summary.
